Choosing a Paver Brand

Good, better, best: the three brands we install most, and where each one earns its place.

Good

Belgard

Belgard is the dependable entry point: broad availability, a wide style range, and earth-toned blends that sit comfortably in a Colorado yard. For patios, walkways, and garden paths on a working budget, it delivers solid durability without the premium price.

Unilock paver style and surface examples

Better

Unilock

Unilock steps up the finish quality: crisper colors, more refined textures, and engineered performance features like stain resistance and enhanced surface strength. It handles freeze-thaw well and covers both modern and traditional looks, which makes it the smart mid-range upgrade.

Techo-Bloc premium paver finish examples

Best

Techo-Bloc

Techo-Bloc is the premium tier: HD2 surface technology, sharp contemporary textures, and finishes that keep their color richness for years. As a Techo-Bloc certified contractor, we install it where the project calls for a true designer result.

How a Paver Surface Gets Built

The pattern is the part you see. The performance comes from everything underneath it.

Base Preparation

Every paver surface we build sits on 3/4-inch angular gravel, compacted in lifts until it locks tight, then screeded flat with string lines and a straightedge. The base does the structural work: drainage, stability, and a dead-level plane for the pavers above.

Hand-Set Installation

Pavers go down one at a time on the prepared base, aligned to string lines so courses stay straight across the whole field. Consistent joint spacing leaves room for jointing sand, which is what keeps the surface locked together through freeze-thaw winters.

The Finished Surface

The result is a tight, level surface with clean borders and smooth transitions into turf, steps, and the surrounding landscape. Because the performance is built into the base and joints, the finished patio is ready for decades of Colorado seasons.

Built for Outdoor Living

A paver patio rarely stands alone. Fire features and seat walls turn it into a gathering space, walkways connect it to the rest of the yard, and on sloped lots retaining walls step it cleanly into the grade. We design the surface around how you will actually use it: dining, evening fires, play space, or all three.

On full landscape projects, the paver work is sequenced with retaining walls, fire features, lighting, and planting so the finished yard reads as one design rather than a collection of projects.

Considering poured concrete instead? Compare repairability, finish, joint pattern, and the surrounding landscape before committing to a surface.

Paver Patio Questions We Hear Most

How long does a paver patio last with proper installation?

A properly based and edge-restrained paver patio is built to hold its lines through repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Because individual pavers can be lifted and re-set, small settling issues are a repair, not a full replacement, unlike a poured slab.

Which paver brand should I choose?

It comes down to budget and the look you want. Belgard covers dependable, budget-conscious projects; Unilock adds refined texture and engineered surface performance; Techo-Bloc is the premium designer tier. We bring samples to the estimate and match the brand to the project.

Do pavers need to be sealed?

Sealing is optional and mainly cosmetic: it deepens color and can ease cleaning. It is not required for the structural performance of a properly installed paver system.

What makes pavers different from a poured patio?

Pavers are individual units on a compacted base rather than one continuous slab. That means more pattern and border options up front, and lift-and-relay repairability later, where a cracked slab would need cutting and replacement.
