Artificial Turf Installation

Excavation of Organic Material

We begin by removing 4 to 6 inches of soil and organic matter to create a clean, stable base for your turf system. This ensures proper drainage, weed prevention, and long-term durability.

Subgrade Compaction

Once excavated, we compact the bare earth using a plate compactor. This stabilizes the area and prevents future settling, which is critical for maintaining a level surface over time.

Angular Gravel Base Installation

We install 4 inches of open-graded angular gravel over a geotextile barrier. This base supports drainage and provides a rock-solid foundation that won’t shift or sag.

Let Turf Bake in Sun

We allow the rolled turf to sit out and absorb heat from the sun. This softens the backing and eliminates wrinkles, making the turf easier to work with during installation.

Crushed Refines Installation

A thin layer of finely crushed material—often called “refines”—is compacted over the gravel to create a smooth, uniform surface for the turf to rest on.

Roll Out and Cut In Turf

Turf is rolled out over the base, cut to fit the layout, and carefully adjusted to ensure proper grain direction and seamless transitions.

Nail Down the Edges

Using a nail gun and air compressor, we secure the turf to the perimeter edging. This prevents movement and keeps your lawn tight and clean over time.

Spread Antimicrobial Infill

We spread approximately 2 lbs per square foot of antimicrobial emerald green infill. This supports the blades, adds weight, and prevents odors—especially important for pet owners.

Custom Landscapes by Design did a phenomenal job fixing our landscaping. We had a huge drainage problem caused by another Castle Rock company’s negligence. This summer our basement flooded 3 separate times because the faulty landscaping created a dam blocking water between the sidewalk and the house. The other company refused to return my calls. Aaron at CLD came to the rescue! He installed French drains, standard drain between the house and sidewalk. He and his crew backfilled 3 tons of soil and rock that had eroded. He also tweeted my existing landscape that had washed away with the summer storms. I fully recommend his company.
